Billiard Supplies
Billiard
supplies consist of a few standard items that are needed to play.
The most important is a billiard table. A table with a thick, flat slate,
a smooth green felt, and good rubber bumpers is necessary. Height is
also an important factor, if a table is too tall it will be difficult
to play. Deep pockets help keep more balls in, and prevent balls from
bouncing out.
Balls are the second most important item of billiard supplies.
Three balls plus a cue ball is the minimum, but there are games that
require 30 balls. Eight ball is the most common with 15 balls, but snooker
is popular as well with 22 balls.
The third most important item of billiard
supplies is the cue stick. The cue ball is struck with the cue stick,
sending the ball into the colored balls and changing the pace of the
game. A good cue is well balanced, not too heavy, and has a leather
tip. The tip is sanded down to help it accept chalk, another standard
billiard supply which increases the friction on the cue ball.
Other billiard supplies include a good billiard light
above the table, a triangular rack to properly rack the balls before
each game, and some extra chalk to reduce the amount of friction caused
by the cue stick and your hand.
