Billiard Light

Billiard lights are an important addition to a pool table, or pool hall. A good billiard light will light the playing surface evenly so the balls cast very little shadows. Good light is important for billiards because of the changeable nature of the game. It would be harder to properly aim and strike the cue ball if it were in dark shadows.

Many beer and cigarette manufacturers make billiard lights and sell them cheaply, or give them away for free, to bars and clubs. The company gets free advertising, and the bar and club owners get nice billiard lights which are often very expensive, and might not be purchased otherwise. Some of the older lights made by beer companies are highly coveted collector’s items.

The style of billiard lights hearkens to an aesthetic that generally reminds people of the movies and pictures that immortalized pool. The movies “The Hustler” and “The Color of Money” both have similar atmospheric lights that have set a standard that is still used today. Even new styles emulate the style of the lights in those movies.
